王爾德一句雙關三種譯法

a spade a spade的雙關翻譯
Cecily. Do you suggest, Miss Fairfax, that I entrapped

關： [挖苦地] 我這輩子還真沒見過蘿蔔坑呢。看來很明顯，你我的社交圈子相差很遠哪！
雙關語的翻譯，既非直譯，也不是意譯，我歸類為「創意翻譯」，也即放棄原文的用詞不譯，以符合原文設定的文字遊戲創意，能起相同的雙關作用為目標。所以原文的spade在三個譯本中都不見了，余光中借用「指鹿為馬」的典故，張南峰則用跟農事有關的事物(牛)來諷刺對方的「土」，張華則用「一個蘿蔔一個坑」的俗語，都能符合原文的遊戲規則。
Call a spade a spade的原意為“直言不諱，有話直說”，但王爾德的小說The Picture
of Dorian Gray (1890) Chapter 17中另有別解：
(Lord Henry Wooten) "It is a sad truth, but we have lost the faculty of giving lovely names to things. Names are everything. I never quarrel with actions. My one quarrel is with words.
